Assessment of Dietary Sodium Levels Among Adults (aged 19-64) in England, 2011

Dietary sodium intakes can be used as an indicator of salt consumption. The results are used by government to monitor progress towards the recommended maximum salt intake for adults of no more than 6g per person per day.

Urine samples representative of the adult population in England aged 19-64 were collected from a participants in the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS), with additional participants recruited through a random sampling method.

This report presents the salt intake for adults in England in 2011 and a trend analyses to put this result in the context of previous dietary sodium surveys across UK countries since 2000/01.
